Parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kids

Raising Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kids--Together

So Im feeling like a horrible mom in that somehow my 16 month son lost one of his hearing aids. I went everywhere and retracked my steps. I made so many calls to the stores i was at. I didn't have his critter clip on because he don't bother his hearing aids anymore. The ear mold was in his ear and the other part wasn't. Im completely upset by this. Will medicaid replace it or will i have to pay out of pocket?? Any help would be great! Thanks Jess

Have you looked into filing a claim under your homeowners insurance? Don't fret as this happened to our son when he was in 1st grade. Our homeowners insurance paid for both hearing aids (he lost one, but audiologist recommended replacing both to have the same aids in each ear) minus our deductible and with out any issues.

The same thing happened to us with a pair of Oticon hearing aids when our son was 2.
The earmold and sound hook were in place so we didn't notice that the beige hearing aid was missing.
Medicaid paid for a new hearing aid in just a month or so. We posted signs, called friends... eventually it turned up in the back yard after months of rain, and lawn mowing... and it still worked! It didn't work like it should, but I was amazed that the electronics weren't totally fried.

Our son has Phonak hearing aids which have a better attachment between the sound hook and the hearing aid. Also, we got him the cute blue ones so you can instantly see if he has them on.
