Hi Brenda,
We have experienced similiar difficulties in our church with our 8 year old daughter (they are currently looking into updating the ASL transmitter radio system). From Sertoma directly, we personally purchased a "headphone" cord for appr...
Hi there! Tks for reaching out. We're in Northbrook, so not that close but not too far. We also found out about our daughter's hearing loss just before Kindergarten when ... after being referred to peds neurologist who partners w/child psychologist for escalating behavioral issues ... I finally begged pediatrician to test her hearing. It explained a lot and the behavior stuff ended almost immediately once we knew how to communicate with her! Another hahaha-great-story-to-share, huh?!
Hi Carrie, nice to meet you. Your daughter is beautiful. I'm a mom of 2 hearing impaired children (ages 14 and 12) and both my husband and I are also hearing impaired. We live up in Northbrook and my brother's family lives in Naperville. I could ask my sister in law if she knows any families in your area. I have been fortunate that both of my kids have mild hearing loss (my husband and I are in the severe range) and are doing extremely well in school as they have never been in any hearing impaired programs. I basically did early intervention with them and they also had speech lessons up until 1st grade. My kids have never been exposed to other hearing impaired children as we don't know anyone around us. Through Karen Putz's recent gathering, my kids had the opportunity to meet a few, but it was hard for them as they didn't know anyone.
We are hoping to find some DHH friends in the area. Love the Ning sites - happy to see we've got one made especially for us!!!! Have lots of great stories to share, like our our Dr. telling me not to worry about failing the newborn screening (during the 2 week checkup), while he clapped very loudly to "see" if she could hear it.
